Was just thinking....

I know I just posted a thread about the surly CC as a tourer blah blah blah. But I was just thinking while I'm saving up for whatever bike I choose ( CC or LHT ) can I tour on my surly steamroller I just built up. It doesnt have rack brazeons or anything and I'm not talking about a long tour, just a couple day tours or something light. Are there racks that I can use for a couple light panniers and a tent on top? I dont know why I haven't asked this before as I've been riding fixed for over 2 years now.

If you are packing light, you can just buy a pannier rack that clamps onto your seat post. I used this same system this past summer on a 59 day cross country trip and it worked out fine. Delta makes several racks like this.

Riding fixed while loaded is not a good idea because it's difficult and dangerous - but it can be done.

Well I've ridden my fixed conversion with rear rack, 2 panniers and sleeping mat before brakeless and made it fine. Although if I do it this time I will be throwing a front brake on and a lower gear. It wont be a heavy load though.
