Sturdy rear rack that hooks to seat stays?

Sturdy rear rack that hooks to seat stays?
Does anyone know if there's a sturdy rack out there that attaches to the seat stays? I need to replace the cheapo rack I have now -- 36 pounds for 5 days bent the rack supports. Thanks!

Any rack that attaches to braze ons will attach to brackets on the STs. You might have to come up with some beefiers attachments if you regularly break them. Also 36 pounds is a fair bit, you could start to think of two racks, if you aren't also using the front ones. There are lots of racks that will hold more than 36, but it's also enough you might like a fore and aft distribution of weight. Problem is that the racks and bags weigh a bit in themselves.

I spoke to Wayne, he seems to feel that hooking to the seat stays is a bad idea. I'll have to get a plain ol' sturdy rack. Thanks!

First off, did you break the rack itself, or just bend the stays? Because if you bent the stays, getting a stronger rack isn't going to help. You'll just bend the stays again. There isn't a large rear rack that doesn't use stays that I know of...connecting to braze ons on the seat stays (the best), seat post collar or rear brake bridge.

Here's a link to the Delta rack hardware page. I'm pretty sure any rack can be hooked up with this hardware. Try stacking 2 of the stays together on one side (4 total). or..... Add an extra stay to the brake bridge (you might have to drill holes in your rack top).
I'm betting you can fix this pretty cheap and easy.
But I also question 36 pounds on your rear rack...that's a lot of weight!
