Reflective Safety Triangles
 

Hi guys,

I know they make them, because I see pictures of people with them. Where do I find a flexible reflective safety triangle that I can fasten to a rear pannier?

Any farm/tractor supply type store should have them in stock too. I bought my last one there, it was made out of some type of plastic, not the metal backing. On one of my early tours I had a bright colored sleeping bag stuff sack and sewed some bright yellow reflective tape on it in a triangle shape. Just had to make sure it was facing to the rear when I tied it on.

http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/e...3/DSCN5775.jpgThe lime/yellow color works well in day light too. I gave one away to a guy (I nearly squished him, he though I pulled over to yell at him or something) and have seen him around a few times. Much better day and night.

Seen a few people in town with them too, highly recommended if you can get past the dork factor.

I asked them to pose for a photo (a couple in their 60's) and they stood together nicely and smiled, and I felt a bit bad when I said, "no turn around, I want the triangle view"

Here is a use for the full sized aluminum backed ones you see on tractors and such.

With those kits, they need safety triangles? :) You can barely pick out the triangles among all of thiose bright colors. :)

Last summer, for the first time I wore a reflective jacket on tour. It is made of a light weight mesh, and is similar to ones worn by road crews.

It makes your entire torso, front and back, clearly visible day or night. Not that I would recommend riding at night! Those reflective triangles are great, but the reflective jacket is a foot or two higher than something hanging off your rear panniers or rack, and has more surface area, so in theory, drivers will be able to see you at greater distances.
