Tubus Tara vs. Duo
Anyone have any preferences when it comes to these two front racks? I can't tell any advantages of one over the other. Except that the Tara has the crossbar going over the front tire and that it is 1.5oz lighter. Which one should I buy? Thanks.

you pointed out the main advantage, if you're concerned about the rack being super rock solid get the tara.

Call Wayne from thetouringstore; he can tell you everything about either rack and which would work best with your bike.

yeah, I have the duo as well. really solid rack, and highly recommended. Note the measurement requirements for brazing spacing though. this is critical and the rack will not adjust to accommodate much change. I cannot recall the distances between the brazeons, but it needs to match up.
I used a P clamp to mount a dynamo headlight to the top forward-facing bend on the rack, which works very well...

So the advantage of the Tara is it's a little stronger. Seeing they are the same price what would be the advantage of the Duo? Just more compact without the crossbar?

I have the Tara, and haven't perceived anything wrong with it. I guess the only advantage to the Duo is it *might* make it easier to box the bike without removing the front rack - but that's just a guess.
I had the Blackburn Custom Low Rider before, which is similar to the Duo in that it is two separate pieces with no hoop. I did have to take it off to pack the bike. And the Tara is a bit stiffer I think. But of course, the blackburn is 8mm aluminum, and the Duo and Tara are 10mm steel, so it's apples to oranges to compare.

That is nice. I do have a light on down there (to avoid bar bag conflict) but the duo is an obstacle rather than something to use to help, and I'd rather have it a bit higher (the better to be seen with...)

The duo is designed for forks with low-rider braze-ons both on the outside and inside of the forks. the tara is designed for the rest of us. If you have a "normal" fork, get the tara. I bet you can rig-up a duo without the proper braze-ons, but why would ya?
hth,

*edit* the tara will hold 7 more pounds of stuff, too.
