Hi All,

I'm planning a cycling trip with some friends who are relatively new to touring. My wife and I have enjoyed a few trips to Germany and Austria and we like the comfort of cycling the radwegs. I'm considering a loop starting in Frankfurt, north along the Fulda and Weser to Bremen, over to Hamburg, and back down the Elbe to somehow end back in Frankfurt for 3 weeks in September. Has anyone done portions of this route? Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. We are not camping but intend to find modest accomodation along the way.

Hi,

if cycle alongside rivers it's no problem. For Hessen I could give you some information. You miss the nice Rhine Valley. With the few information you post I would go like along Rhine - Lahn to Fulda - Weser to Bremen. Hamburg - Elbe until? then southwards may be along the Main river back to Frankfurt.

My wife and I rode from Frankfurt up to Fulda, and then on along the Fulda and Weser rivers to Bremen. Great riding, you'll love it! Then after Hamburg, follow the Elba back down south. It is supposed to be German's most beautiful route, though I haven't done it yet. I think I should soon.

Accommodation is plentiful. You can feel free to borrow my map books when you do the tour. It lists all the places to stay at as well as having detailed route maps and descriptions.

Thanks becnal. I've been using that site to give me some ideas. I've been collecting the ADFC maps on past trips but they have been south of Frankfurt so I'll add a few more if we do this trip. My wife and I enjoy touring in Germany because it is so well set up. Plus it gives me a chance to practise my German.

I thought you were Austrian.

The ADFC maps are ok, but the Bikeline ones by ESTERBAUER are the best in the world. I only use them. www.bikeline.at
