California Guidebook

Hello,

I'm shopping for guidebooks for our upcoming July tour of the north SF Bay area. We're tentatively planning to tour from Bolinas north through Sonoma or Napa Valley, west to the PC Highway, and then back south to SF. The Lonely Planet guides usually tend to fit our travel style best, with low cost, quality food and lodging suggestions and off-the-beaten-path suggestions. I've seen mixed review of LP's California guide, however.

I'm considering buying the AC map for the Pacific Coast route, between Crescent City and SF. We will only be on this section for a few days, however, so I'm not sure if I'm going to make the investment.

Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Sonoma / Napa biking

There's also a great California Wine Country Bike map that should cover most of the area from Bolinas up through the Russian River Valley, Sonoma and Napa. (I think it is a Krebs map).

The following enjoyable routes I've personally biked all exist on this map:

1) Around Mt. Tam (and north to Bolinas / Pt. Reyes area)
2) Russian River valley and up/down the coastal 101
3) Sonoma / Napa valleys (if you have the time, a 1- or 2-day detour to Harbin Hot Springs from Calistoga area is highly recommended!!!)

I can email w/ further details about these bike routes, and I can double-check the exact name/publisher of the map if you want.
