Bicycle Camping on Erie Canal Bike Trail
I need some advice for camping on/along the Erie Canal Bike Trail between Albany and Buffalo. Are there campgrounds? I'm looking for them 60 to 75 miles apart. Specific locations/towns would be great info.
I would like to do this sometime this summer; probably going both directions, parking at either end. Anyone interested?

I rode it from Syracuse to Albany last July. There is camping at Lock 20 near Rome, Lock 15 in Palentine Bridge, Waterford visitors center. I didn't keep exact mileages but Syracuse Amtrak station to Lock 20 was about 50 miles lock 20 to lock 15 was about 45 miles. and lock 15 to Waterford was about 70 miles. there are a few municipal and private campgrounds along the way but I don't recall their exact locations. Only two small hills the whole way and both were near Albany

The Erie Canal Trail Is one of the Easiest places to"Stealth" Camp. Heck I just found a quiet place to park for the nite, set up camp, made dinner and coffee, and no one ever said anything.

Camping along the Erie Canal
I just got back fron Buffalo to Albany bike trip. I drove to Albany, left my car at Holiday Inn in Rensslaer.
Amrtak to Buffalo, bike back. The "Cycling the Erie Canal" book avalable from www.ptny.org was very helpful. It has maps and campgrounds listed. You also might use Google maps and search campgrounds. It will list all in an area. I camped in Montezuma, lots of bugs, and in Scotia, no bugs, beautiful. Also many opportunities to stealth camp, if you can do without a shower. You might want to avoid early July as there is a group of 500 campng along that route. check the web for details. Google Erie canal bike ride. Happy trails.

The town of Holley has a real nice town park along the canal with access to a grocery store and the town, the park has nice showers in the restrooms and I have heard that there is limited camping in the park. But I don't know this for a fact.
It looks like they are set up to attract boaters to the town, but I imagine someone on a bicycle would be welcome as well.
