Will an LHT fit into a standard bike box?

I might be looking at an 57cm LHT this week. I was thinking about traveling with the bike. Will this bike fit in a standard (free cardboard for the LBS) bike box?

Without taking the front fork off of course.

Not sure but it should. Get a used Cannondale box instead of some other manufactures box, Cannondale makes a stronger box.

Also cover all of the frame tubing (forks and stays) with foam pipe insulation and tape to make sure the foam tubing stays in place. Cover other parts with bubble wrap and tape, and place all loose parts into a padded shipping envelope and place in box.

Most bikes come with the fork installed in the box, so it should fit fine. Just make sure you do not get a box for a 12.5" bike.

'Regular sized' mountain bike box should do. Boxes used to ship road bikes are a tad narrower, and on some brands, not long enough.

Look for a box that's similar or larger to your LHT's size, framewise. Makes packing easier. Remove front wheel and rotate front fork to face the rear for a tighter fit in the box.

I love Cannondale boxes, those are wide (depth wise), but not as long as a generic box, and require both wheels to be taken off. They do come with a slab of cardboard to seperate wheels from frame.

As with all free bike boxes, beggars can't be choosers. Have Fun!

This end is not my concern. I have time to find the right box. It is at the end of my tour where I am concerned. It would be horrible to be at the end of your tour and not be able to find a box big enough.
