would a 58 cm be too small for me, 6'4"

I just went on my first overnight tour, Half moon bay to Santa Cruz and back, it I feel in love I can't wait till this weekend when I'm doing another overnight trip to the santa cruz mountains. Right now I have an 81 entry level peugeot 62 cm that I love, but it is not cro moly and is very heavy and wheels are not true, it does have front and rear eyelits for racks with a rear rack on it now. I bought the bike for 60$ a year ago and it has served me well but its time to upgrade a little. I've found a trek 520 and a specialized expedition both from early or mid eighties, the only problem is that they are both 58 cm. Would 58 be too small for me or would the longer wheel base of touring frames be ok for me to get a little smaller bike, or should I just wait till I find something a little bigger.

I would say that those bikes will be too small for you. On the 62 cm Peugeot your seatpost is extended fairly far. You'll have another 4 cm on top of that. You could find a really long seatpost, and you could buy an extra long stem, but why compromise? Finding big frames is challenging, but they do come along. I'd wait for one if I were you.
