Bob Jackson or Mercian?

I'm looking at a couple of touring bikes and was curious what the thoughts on the two would be. One is a three year old Mercian with about 4000 miles and some- yet minor paint damage and the other a nine year old Bob Jackson with only a 100 miles on the bike. The Mercian is all Integra and the Bob Jackson is all Campy Chorus. Just curious- what do you think?

Having been to both factories and being a bit of a british bike nut, I would say that in my opinion Mercian generally has slightly nicer finishing.

But this could easily be offset if e.g. the Jackson has wonderful colours or options or lugs or otherwise.

Any piccies?

Hey thanks. I was beginning to think I'd asked a stupid question. Who knows maybe it is since both bikes are truly beautiful. p.s. what's are piccies?

I had a Mercian many years ago loved it for both the looks and ride.
I sold it to finance another bike and regretted it ever since.
I'd say go with the Mercian.

I'm a fan of Bob Jackson's - I recently had my special tourist re-painted by Ed Litton out here in California. I'm leaving on my first tour on it in a week and a half.

here it is

Pictures t come. I went with the Bob Jackson. I think the Campy components got me. Plus the gent that was selling the Jackson was really cool. Can't wait to get the bike and post some pics!

World Class or factory?

Curious if you got it through World Class, the stateside distributor, or direct from Leeds? More information on the experience, how long the frame takes to arrive, etc. would be helpful.

Thanks,

Mark

Hey Sir, Unfortunately I can't give you any help on that, because I bought my bike slightly used. I have seen in some archived threads some discussion about turn around time. Again, it's unfortunate that most of the info in those threads are contradictory. I find from talking to the gent that I bought my BJ from that it depends on the time of year and the current work load at either. Wish you luck.
