    Temporary credit card for touring?

I've got my visa tied into all sorts of automatic payments, and wouldn't like to lose it.

Do visa companies have any mechanism whereby they give you a new card/number, perhaps time-limited?

    Cheers,
    pete

Just buy a Prepaid VIsa Card through Walmart. You can reload it as needed, too.

For travel and touring I use a prepaid from Netspend.com. Takes about a week to get in the mail. You do have to pay about $10 for a months use but it only costs $2 to load at one of the advance america places. The nice thing is you can load as much as you want on it.... 20-2000 and so on.. I don't know what the max is but..

It's an easy solution if your credit card company isn't helpful.

Don't know if this solution would work for you. Does work great for me.

Many banks offer these prepaid cards too.

    Sounds like a good idea.

Carry a regular card too if/when you would need to pay for hotel/motel, airfare or car rental. (Mind I'm not sure, but don't think prepaids work in those instances)

Thats what I do. Reloading is easy as well. Just stop by a Wal-mart and transfer funds. It's not connected to your bank account so if it's lost or stolen your other accounts are safe. If it does get lost or stolen a call to Green Dot will stop any further transactions immediately and they will send you a new card.

Don't do Green Dot.!!! It has been a month and my son is still waiting for his card. Talking to the so-called supervisors has been a waste of time. Oh yeah by the way they managed to take out their monthly fee.

If you lose your CC, you'll have to change your number. That could affect some of your automatic payments.

I wouldn't use a prepaid credit card. While CC's make payments easier, you never know when you're going to need a big chunk o' change in a big fat hurry -- as in, before you can get to a Wal-Mart. Especially if you're traveling outside the US.

I'd just get a second no-fee credit card with a decent limit.
