Help! BoB bag handle kaput
I tried search function for BoB bag repairs, but came up with nothing, so here it goes..............
For a recent tour, I borrowed a Bob trailor & the big yellow water proof bag that goes with it.
On the last day, I picked the bag up by the handles, and riiiiip - the fabric on one of the handles shredded, right where the handle is attached to the bag. I mean shredded - just threads hanging.
I called & emailed the BoB Co. asking if they could fix the handle, or replace the handle, or if they had a repair kit, or any suggestions at all. Both times the said to take it to a luggage shop or to an industrial stitcher and have it stitched back on. I said there is nothing to stitch, it is shredded to right below where the plastic tube part of the handle starts, and besides, stitching would compromise the water proofness of the bag (wouldn't it?) Well, they said, that's all the suggestions we got.
Anyone else have this happen? I'd hate to return the bag to it's owner with a broken handle, or a bad repair job. Or do I have to break down and buy a new bag? Any ideas?
Thanks, MJ

How long did you borrow the bag for? Was it weakened by UV ? If so, was the damage mostly done during your tour ? Was it real weak when you borrowed it? I'd buy my friend who loaned me their trailer a new bag. Any fix would be pretty hokey. You might can get one on Ebay cheap.

The Nashbar one is on sale right now. VERY cheap.

It would probably help if you could post a pic showing the damaged areas.
Or just call your friend and explain what happened and that you want to try to make it right, they just might surprise you.

Take it to an outdoor gear repair place. Ask at an outdoor store/REI for a lead on a good one. They are used to coming up with DIY repairs on such gear. You can make the bag waterproof again after sewing with some shoe goo on the inside/outside over the stitching, but just ask the repair place what they recommend.

Thank you everybody for your replies.
The BoB & bag are sort of communal - 4 people pooled their money to buy it, and the people in our informal riding group borrow for trips.
I like the idea of taking it to an outdoor equipment shop. If they say it's hopeless, then I'll just buy a new one.
