Reports during or after the tour?
For my upcoming biketrip Sweden—Hungary, I was planning to update my homepage daily. I had just found the perfect hitech yet lowbudget equipment (mobile, palm pilot, modem basically). But this weekend my mobile got stolen (or I ”drank it away”, as the saying goes in Sweden). It was cheap and I could buy another one. But I also thought, not for the first time, that touring without these gadgets might be a nicer experience, especially since it’s my first tour. So are there any geeks out there who have some experience in the matter?
And for once, I can use this smiley!

Every lane is a bike lane
Personally I'd rather go without any of those gadgets. In many places there are public libraries/Internet cafes where you can log on and post updates, however, for me it would just be yet another obligation, the type of thing that I see touring as a way of escaping.

If your interested, i can run a sub forum for your tour here on the forums, as i did for catfish on his tour this summer. That way, if you update from public places, you wont need to worry about FTP / layout on your webpage... let me know if your interested.
Personaly, i would take a notepad, its easyer to write down thoughs on paper then on a palm or computer
Have fun with the tour!

Wow, what an offer, Joe! But the point with updating thru my Palm was that I could do it every night without the need of real computers and Internet cafés. I even had a guestbook-style layout solution. Although a portable keyboard would ease the frustration of writing ”graffiti” (the Palm Pilot system of tapping letters on the screen, duh).
Of course I will write every night anyway (after all, journalism is my part time occupation!), but publish it all later on my site. Well well, I haven’t decided yet...
And here is what my technomadic solution looks like! (Or looked like before my mobile was stolen...)
