Well, it's a start, and a good one at that.
I have been searching for a nice touring bike for quite some time with the intention of doing some over nighters this fall after the Texas heat subsides, and working up to a several day tour in the spring.
I've been lurking in the forum for auite a while, but with no tourer and no experience I haven't posted. That can now change since I finally have the machine I've been looking for. It needs a small amount of work like new cables, a chain would be hlepfull, and I'll grease all the bearings just because.
Now all I need are some suitable racks and bags, and some OJT to decide what gear I want, and I'm on the road.
So here she is.............
It's a shame I'll lose the killer bar tape with the new cables.......

Very nice, I like the Campagnolo cantilever brakes! Get a nice big Carradice or Rivendell seatbag to hand off of that Brooks and you'll be ready for an overnight tour!

Oddly, I have had the Brooks for awhile and looking for the proper bike to hang it on. It's been a long search to have the right bike and the right deal coincide.
I will most likely be using a seat bag in the near term while I decide what racks and bags I like. I also need to get fenders since the originals are no longer with it.
What it, and myself, needs most is miles. Lots and lots of miles.

Thanks BBT.
Now, if the temps would stay below 90 until at least 9:00 AM, I could log some better miles to get it sorted out.
I'm looking for places to head off too for a few overnighters, as well as researching equipment. Thankfully, overnighters require less packing and I can take the added weight of a slightly larger tent I have and some regular camping stuff. That will change in time as the time and distances increase, lol.

TXVintage - beautiful project bike!

It's not the greatest road, but the ride from TJ to Ensenada is awsome!

I have a local LBS that sometimes has them for sale. They are often used as display stands.
Another source.....

They are quite handy for quick maintenance, and the "keepers" of the herd like not leaning up against stuff. No clamp scratches from the repair stand either.
