Some pics of the new Aurora

Here are some pictures of the new Jamis Aurora. Because the shop was having trouble getting a couple of parts, the wheels are standard, not the XT hubs and Mavic rims and the rear derailleur is an LX until the XT low normal derailleur comes in. I upgraded the shifters to Ultegra (9sp) and added a Shimano Flight Deck computer. Unfortunately I won't have any racks or panniers on it until the spring.

The bike came with some extra brake calipers that I'm not sure I'll keep. They're shown in the second pic. I'm told that they're "popular" among tourers, but Im not sure I see the need for them.

The bike handles very well. When you considder that my last bike was/is a 45lb recumbent, this bike feels wonderfully light and maneuverable.

Nice looking bike. I have some "cross levers" on my fairly new Moto' Fantom CX. I like being able to brake from the top. The only time I'll remove them is when I upgrade to a better set.

Thanks for letting me know the proper name for the cross levers. Maybe I'll grow to like them too. Particularly when I'm on a longer tour and want to have more hand positions on the bars.

I asked if I could just buy a bunch of the Jamis decals, but they said I had to take the bike too.

It's true though, the bike is no understated LHT. And I'm not really the sort to douse the bike in chemicals and peel the decals off with a blowtorch because they bug me. On the contrary, the louder the bike the better. I've been hit a couple of times and I like to stand out.

Not that copper and beige is gonna light up the road, or anything.....
