$1,000 Touring Bike?

Is there a good touring bike for around $1000?
Sincerely

I am 5'8" with a 30 inch inseam. I would prefer 700 size wheels.

The fuji 2008 is about $785 out the door at performance stores, if you are a performance member. Good starter, and for the most part above entry level compoents.

another possibility is to check online -- craigslist is a good bet -- for a used, vintage touring bicycle. Some people on this list have scored really nice bikes that way, sometimes for bargain basement prices.

The Volpe is listed as having 700c wheels. The LHT has 700c wheels on the larger models (the smaller of which might be OK for you).

People also mention the REI Novarro as an good inexpensive Tourer. There's also the Fuji and the Bikes Direct "Windsor Tourist").
