New to me Brooks Team Pro

I just had the most unbelievable score from a fellow biker that I have ever had. He needed a Camelabck. I needed a saddle for my Cross Check. I am giving him a Mule. He sent me a Brooks Team Pro saddle. I think I came out like a champion on that trade. It appears almost new with very little wear on it. He also sent some Proofide and a tension wrench.(Although I read that the tension wrench can screw up a really fine saddle) I re-Proofided it and put it on my Surly. Can't wait to try it out

have fun breaking it in! took me something like 6 months, not easy, but a great saddle in the long run! used it on multiple tours, fit like a glove.

keep applying profile, i ignored doing this and my saddle dry-rotted or split at rivets. this was a truly sad day...

you got the better end of that trade!!

I have already applied Proofide twice. It just soaks that stuff up. It is in darn near perfect condition. I know, without a doubt, one of the best trades I have ever made:thumb:

If it is really really new (incredibly stiff and painful), you might consider soaking it as suggested here: http://www.sheldonbrown.com/leather.html
I followed the "baptism" instructions on a brand new, stiff-as-a-board, honey brown b17 and it came out dark brown and far far far more comfortable to ride. Instructions say 30min to 1hr. I did 40 min. 20 min probably would have done the trick. I used Wilson's BB Glove oil from Meijer. $1.99

All you need is a little proof hide and just ride it. :thumb:

I am not a Brooks fan, but I found the one Brooks I owned acceptable right out of the box. I only came to dislike it as it got really broken in after too much riding in wet conditions.

Well, I'll be riding mine on Sunday...It sure does look classy

I would be careful about over proofiding. It is supposed to be ass shaped, not soft.

+1 Although I don't the the proofhide softens it as much as it seals it. I have put plenty of proofhide on mine and it is just now coming to shape (8 months now riding with about 1500 miles).

I didn't find my Team Pro break-in process to be arduous at all. Just HTFU and ride. Proofide a few times a year or whenever it gets wet. Don't forget the underside.

You may have a different opinion after your first ride, but give it 1,500 km and it'll meet your expectations.

I have a Team Pro and after 5,000 km I wouldn't trade it for anything.
