OP, you may also want to advertise on Crazyguy for a partner.

May I humbly recommend the east coast of Thailand if you want to ride by the beach but you don't want the heavily developed tourism you see in Krabi. We just finished Pratchuap Kiri Khan south through Bang Saphan and Paknam Lang Suan. With a good map, you don't need to do more than 40km on Route 4 (which has a wide shoulder anyway). The rest is all on very quiet roads, gorgeous groves of palm trees, waves lapping at your feet, little fishing harbours. Some of the best riding we've done in Thailand and we had the beaches almost to ourselves.

Paknam Lang Suan is definitely worth a visit if you just like people watching. Nothing to do there really but lots of Thais out jogging, riding their bikes (we were invited for coffee by some local cyclists) in numbers we've not seen anywhere else in Thailand, families out having picnics in the parks. Really nice atmosphere and you can have a bungalow right on the beach for 300-500 Baht.

I'm writing up some road notes which I'll link to here when I'm done. Really, this is a great Thai ride. Coming towards Krabi was nice too for scenery but wow, Ao Nang (Krabi beach) is really developed, prices rocket by 3-5 times normal. If you're on a budget, stop at a market before you get here and buy some food at regular Thai prices!
