Dyno-hub to charge cellphone?
I got an iPhone for Christmas and would like to use it this year on tour. I want to use a handlebar mount so I can see the GPS mapping and listen to music. This of course will eat batteries. Does anyone know if you can use a dyno-hub to charge / run this?
Thanks, Greg
Thanks, Greg

Yes, it'll take a bit of hacking but there are several folks who have done this. Be prepared to get intimate with a soldering iron.

I think you'd be better off with:
a) a "Solio" solar-powered charger
b) maps
In general, GPS isn't quite reliable enough to replace maps. It's a good backup though.

I would be worried about how an iphone would do mounted on the handlebars. Wouldn't rain, sweat, vibration, etc eventually cause problems for your iphone?

Yea, neither have I, read plenty of articles that sort of / kind of get close, but nothing concrete. Thanks for the links.
