Rear rack for Trek 7.2FX WSD 17"

I am looking for a rear rack that will fit my girlfriends 17" Trek hybrid bike.

I tried my rack which I purchased from MEC but it doesn't fit. Since her bike frame is small the rack isn't 'tall' enough, the tire interferes with it.

Topeak Explorer has fit every bike I've tried it on. Regular and disc-specific versions. Drawback - if you see it as such - the rail system they use means you need one of their bags.

I already own a couple sets of panniers so I wont be purchasing new bags for her bike. Although just looking at a photo of the Topeak Explorer I don't see why you need speacial bags. What is the 'rail system' ?

You don't need special bags for the panniers. I'm using Trek Interchange ones with mine. If you look closer at the Topeak MTX series you'll see that they use a top bag that has a rail under it that slides into the rack and latches. Personally I find it darned handy, but if you already have bags it may or may not be a showstopper. You can still use a velcro style bag with it tho.

I tried several and could not find one out of the box to fit. I had to modify a rear rack to fit my wifes 2009 7.2 WSD. The arms for the rack were interfering with the brake caliper. In order to make the rack fit I had to bend the arm around the caliper, it was mostly a trial and error thing. The rack I got had soft aluminum arms and were fairly easy to bend with a vise and pliers. I cant post a pic right now but I might be able to this afternoom if I can figure out how.

OK, I get it, its just the top bag that uses the rail system.

I found this "Bontrager Back Rack I" on Trek's website. Which specifically says "Fits mountain and hybrid bikes 20in (50cm) and under, road bikes 54cm and under"

Maybe it would work, doesn't mention anything specifically regarding WSD frames. I would hate to order it and it not fit. Maybe a LBS has one I can try.
