What's in your kit?
So what do you pack for a weekend camping trip in fair weather?
both in terms of stuff for you and stuff for your bike.

The lists for a weekend tour and a month-long tour aren't that much different for me.
Are you going to be going where there are mosquitoes? On some of my first weekend tours I didn't bring a tent - I just threw a blue foam pad on the ground and slept on that. It saved weight, although it wasn't too comfortable. Some places I've been since would make that torturous due to mosquitoes. On a weekend tour you can often count on the weather forecast being accurate, and you'll know if you need to prepare for rain or not. On longer tours you probably need to be prepared, no matter how beautiful it is when you begin.
I bring fewer clothes when I go for the weekend.
I don't usually carry much food in either case - I stop at a grocery store during the day - as close to my destination as possible - and stock up for that night and the next morning.
Of course, cooking stuff is only necessary if you'll be cooking. If you eat in restaurants, skip that. It depends on where you go.

I pack the same for a weekend trip as for a long trip, except that I bring more clothes on a weekend trip, so that I don't have to do laundry.

The rest of the stuff would probably be just about exactly what I carry on a long tour.
For me it is more trouble than it is worth to pack for a weekend trip and I usually just do day rides if I am limited to a weekend. That way I can ride a faster sportier bike and probably ride more miles. I am not likely to tour unless I have at least a week. Not knocking the weekend trips they just don't appeal to me.

Decent quality small tent
1st generation MSR whisperlite stove plus an additional 22oz fuel bottle
Lightweight over priced cookset -small pan w/lid, small pot, metal bowl, plastic insulated mug
Candle, headlamp, lighters, bike light
Water bag and shower spout
Water purifier –pump job
Coffee filter the screen type
Small radio
Afterbite, triple antibiotic cream, bug balm
Shaving kit w/floss and extra smelly deodorant
Small towel and cloth
Hi-visibility vest
Heavy wool socks, regular socks, waterproof socks
Boxer shorts, regular shorts, wind pants, long bike tights w/out pad
Rain jacket with pants and hat
Cap and wool hat, wool gloves
Long sleeve wool top, long sleeve knit shirt, light fleece long sleeve top
Wind breaker
Couple t-shirts
Four panniers and a bike
Few assorted bike tools, folding tire, pump, tubes, lube
Fooood varies greatly
Also include a good brandy or scotch only because I can’t haul cold beer.
