Any Ex-Smokers or Current Smokers??
I quit last January after smoking for 4 or 5 years. Just wondering if anyone else has done the same or still is.
Talking about cigarettes too here. The tobacco kind...

Yeah, I smoked cigarettes (Pall-Malls, Lucky Strikes, and Camels) from age 13 until age 37... it's now been 19-1/2 years since I quit (cold turkey), and I've never been tempted to take even a single toke... errr, puff.
Keep it up, bro!

12 to 19. Three years now away from the awful junk, no regrets no cravings. Got to the point where I was rolling my own and smoking a pack of Drum or Bali-Shag a day. That's 50 unfiltered cigarettes. I got sick of it screwing with my climbing so I quit cold-turkey, in the middle of my coaster brake tour to Virginia. I threw the remainder of my tin o' smokes off a bridge into the Susquehanna for dramatic effect. I'm sure it washed ashore, a raccoon got into it, and died of nicotine poisoning. What a jerk I am!
Anyways keep with it! Use the extra $$$ to buy snacks and bike parts!

Congratulations!
I quit years ago for good. (After quitting 9,387 previous times)..
One small suggestion...
One of the appeals of touring is getting away from your "normal routine" for a while. (whatever that is.)
Please don't succumb to those head games that I did - "Just a few smokes until I get back to real life."
Intuitively, you know that just doesn't work.

the only people I see smoking are hippie singlespeed/fixie riders. They all gather round the ashtray a get cancer together.

Smoked for about forty-five years, quit nearly seven years ago. Hardest thing I ever did, best thing I ever did. No temptations or cravings after about the first year.

I've smoked (seriously) since I was about 15. I'm 26 now and have quit for more than a month quite a few times. I did good for about 6mo last year and then I always end up smoking again. Good luck keeping it going, it does help with riding after a month or so when all the stuff is out of your lungs and everything.
Keep on with it.
Keep on with it.

Way toooo many years of smoking. When my wife suggested I retire early I began to look at cost cutting. Chantex is a great friend of mine. Been a non smoker for 18 months. Today I strapped the cross country skis to my bike and rode to the trail.
I am free.

I smoked for about 18 years. Tried quitting for about 10 of them. I finally quit cold turkey 10+ years ago. Never cheated because I'm afraid that if I had one today, I'd have a whole pack tomorrow. The only real problem I've had is gaining so much weight. I still ride-probably better than ever, but it seems harder.

Started smoking when I was 15, started on Pall Malls straight, thats what my dad smoked. Up to two and half packs a day when I quit cold turkey in 1989. Haven't had one since. I gain about 40 lbs after quitting also, still trying to get rid of the excess baggage yet.

I smoked for 27 years. Quit lots of times. Quit for good in 1988. Glad I quit, but I really liked them! It's a shame they can't find out that liquor, cigarettes, dope, chicken fried steaks, and the #7 at Herrera's Tex Mex are really good for you!

Man, I love smoking. I smoked Dunhills for about 18 years until they changed them and then Mild Seven Lights for the last few years. Never really smoked more than a half-a-pack a day unless I went out and night and really partied. Have always kept myself in good shape though - I'd smoke before and after surfing, before and after running, while riding, whatever!
I quit a few times in the past, but my heart wasn't in it and I'd go back to it within 6-months. But I recently turned 40, had my first physical since college (everything fine), got my first pair of eyeglasses, and well...it just seemed like the time to quit. Haven't had one in almost a month.

I've been smoking for the past 3 years here in Korea because you can do it anywhere except the subways. I'm young, only 24 now, and I quit recently. I've started training for my bike tour in March and figured this was the best time to do it. Will be nice to get out on the road and break my everyday routine, hope it sticks.

I hope you stay off the damn things.

I was up to two packs a day, personally. Lately, I was at the point where I'd only smoke if I was out partying, and now don't even do that. I still love cigarettes, I just can't ****ing stand how they make everything stink.
Though American Spirit Mediums or a Drum handrolled will always have a special place in my heart.
PS, tea tree oil toothpicks work wonders if you're trying to quit.

Smoked from 16 to 32. Was up to almost 2 packs/day. That was 3 years ago come Feb 15th. I was in the Dr's appt having my sinuses checked out due to an infection, and he told me that my smoking wasn't making anything any easier. When I got out to the car, I took the pack I had just bought, and crumpled it. Smoke free since. Cigarettes, that is. I will enjoy a cigar every now and then, but that is the limit of my tobacco use. It was the best thing I ever did.

I smoked cigarettes for about 12 years, gave them up 6 years ago but picked up pipesmoking a year later. Goes well with touring and other outdoors adventuring i think :-)

Yup. I was once a smoker. A lot of years, 12 or so? So glad I don't anymore. Life, for me, is much better as a non-smoker.

1-3 packs a day for ~20 years. Been quit for almost 10.
By way of looking at the positive side: As easily as I got hooked smoking, I recognized myself early on as having a tendency toward addictions. This definitely prevented me from trying illegal drugs, so smoking very likely saved me a ton of worse grief .

When reading these replies a lot of what I hear in the foreground is Cha-Ching. Even though I am only 26, I still think of all the money I have saved by not picking up the habit. It is awesome that most of your have quit. Hopefully you feel some financial freedom as well from quitting.

I've been smoking since I was around 17, I just turned 21 and have attempted to quit ever since I started.
I had one stretch of about 6 months, but it's a tough battle.
I'm now in New Zealand doing a semester abroad and smokes are cheaper than in Canada and they have better brands. I really want to stop since I want to start racing this summer.
We'll see...
