On tour in Thailand! Keeping a blog
Hey Bikeforums tourers
Just wanted to put in a quick post blatantly making my travel blog accessible to you at http://www.bikemandan.com I really love when people read and reply :) Been loving it over here and have a few great months ahead of me! http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3499/...47f1238e83.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3399/...553938976f.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3083/...124136b4c2.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3104/...a8c78dc66d.jpg http://www.bikemandan.com |
thanks for posting. Love bike related travelogue photos.... Careful, Thailand tourers. Don't slander the king / government. It will get you unwanted housing for an indefinite period of time.

Hi Dan,
Welcome to Thailand. The weather is now very good for bike touring. No rains. Cheers. |
So, did you end up leaving the camping gear at home? I'm not sure from the photos.
Sounds like you're having a good time. Nice photos and refreshingly well-written blog. I'm curious why you're headed south first. (for the beaches?) For the next 5 weeks or so, the weather in northern Thailand will be quite comfortable and it's the dry season up there. Then it will get brutally hot. Central & southern Thailand are hot all the time. Monsoon patterns also need to be taken into consideration. |

I LOVE Thailand and touring the country sounds incredible. My wife and I plan to go there in the Peace Corps within the next few years but meanwhile my 17 yo son just flew there with his class and will be there for a month before flying to India for another month.
I'll keep an eye on your blog Pleasant journeys! tdp |

Not really sure why I went south except for that I had no real plan and it was recommended by the hostel owner in Bangkok whom I stayed with. My one thought prior to leaving was to head down Thailand's "other" coast (Rayong, etc) and then use the coastal checkpoint to get into Cambodia (and head to Sihanoukville). Only problem with this would be that I wouldn't take full advantage of my 30 day free visa on arrival (15 day when I return by land) and I've been told that coast has a lot of heavy industry that isn't always a pleasant sight. Hm, I was under the impression it was cooler in the north and had the idea once it got insanely hot I'd escape there and cool off just a little. Maybe I'm wrong (would certainly not be a first). Thanks everyone for their comments |
Chiang Mai, to the north, this time of year is pretty warm with temps ranging in the low 80s to mid 90s F and fairly humid. Coastal areas will be the coolest.

Hi dan, i'll be coming out to thailand in the next month or so, so may see you on the road! just wondering how cool it gets in the evening because i'm travelling light and was wanting some advice on what type of warmish clothes you think i should bring. would one thin fleece do? also do you know what months the monsoon season begins?
