Chapeau, Peter Langford!

LEJoG of course being the 900~1100 mile (1450~1800 kilometer) "longest point-to-point tour in the UK".

Day five, finishing just south of Bristol and looking very solid on the wheel. Follow along daily:

This is Mr. Langford's 4th LEJoG ride, having completed the iconic UK cycletour at ages 75, 80 and 85.

"If you can ride 40 miles, you can ride around the world."

Mr. Langford is making steady progress with no mechanical or physical issues to report.

The part about Langford's ride that appeals to me is the idea of making it a tour, like a cross-country tour in the U.S., where the distances are adjusted to what the rider can handle on a given day. I doubt I could ride LEJOG as a long brevet, but I think I could tour the U.K. the way he's doing it. (And eat and drink more while I was at it!)

His wife died over a decade and a half ago. She encouraged him to ride the LEJoG after she was gone.

Now north of Inverness, into the far north Highlands. Heading out alone today in the rain and making for Crask Inn, "Great Britain's most remote pub".

He "rides his bike everyday".

In a BBC interview he said he had arthritis in both knees, but "you achieve these things more with your head than your knees". He was riding ~120 miles/week prior to the LEJoG, with a few back-to-back 50-mile days shortly before the start.

Just get started and in a few days.."bob's your uncle" and you're there.

I'm gobsmacked.

Good for him..cycling is a fountain of youth. I hope I can still ride at 90, assuming I make it to 90(many relatives made it to 100), let alone on two wheels. Riding that distance at 90..amazing feat.
