No idea what bike to get... plz help!

Hi Everyone, I'm new to the forum and to road biking. I have some mt. biking xp, but have NEVER riden a road bike in my life. Next year I plan on taking a trip from Oregon to Maine, but have no clue what to expect or what bike to get. I've heard that the Specialized Roubaix, Cannondale Synapse Carbon and Bianchi C2C 928 would be good options, but I'm open to ANY and ALL suggestions. My LBS carries Fuji and BH so I was wondering how the CCR2 and Speedrom would compare here. In general, is a full carbon frame really worth the extra cash? Because it's such a long ride, I'm more than willing to spend some money (around $2500) but I would love to save some dough if it's unnecessary. Thanks everyone!

You're gonna get all the standard ?s

Will you be camping?
Self supported?
Trailer or panniers?

In general carbon isn't the best material for touring.

If it's gonna be supported then I suppose you can ride anything. If you want to carry stuff then get a touring bike. These are normally steel framed, lots of ways to mount front and rear racks, longer chainstays.
