Little mini tour yesterday... 5/8/09
Well it was time for a little mini tour. I needed to take a small little trip and make sure everything was still working from last summers cross country tour.
New poles for the Big Agnes Seedhouse tent. Check!
Fix small leak in Thermarest Check!
Replace worn on Petzl Tikka Plus Check!
I decided to take a little tour down the Island yesterday(whidbey island). My destination was Ebey State Park near Coupeville, WA. Approx 25 miles down the road from my house. Nothing really special as far as distance but I did want to make sure everything is humming for my summer tour.
Well the new poles sent from Big Agnes are a HUGE step up from the crappy ones that came with the Seedhouse. The new ones are the ones that come with the Seedhouse SL. I had breakage problems with the Yunan poles that came with it. Easton poles to the rescue. Smaller, lighter and just plain better. They pack into my panniers better as well. Shorter when folded.
Thermarest leak.............. that was a mother to find. After many attempts at locating it....... it was on the top! Go figure. How it got there? No idea.
Tikka + worked just like my beloved Tikka+ of old. Thing just wore out. Cracked casing and the head band was way stretched out.
As for the mini tour..... Living on an island I tend to take the views for granted so of course I didn't even bring a camera. Saw a really cool owl this morning near the park. Watched the Para Sailors trying to learn and not kill themselves last night on the bluffs. Nice to see everything is ready to go. No problems with the bike or gear.
Body and bike are ready.... Just getting the final details done for a little ride down the Pacific Coast next month. Looking forward to it.
One equipment item I may change is my crappy handle bar bag..... It's getting pretty beat after all the abuse it's received and the thousands of miles of bouncing around. It was cheap and well... it's not an Ortlieb... What I have may last another few thousand miles................. so the jury is still out on this.
Anyways...... Just thought I'd share.
