May Long-Weekend Tours?

Is anyone doing a tour for the May long-weekend (May 16-18th)?

I was planning to do the Golden Triangle again, but changed my mind and will hopefully be doing a couple day rides instead.

Yes, but here in Colorado we celebrate Memorial Day a week later than Alberta celebrates Victoria Day.

So my long weekend plans (May 23rd-25th) are to lead a ride I call "gravel roads of Weld County". Weld County is the neighboring county and is a little larger than Delaware + Rhode Island + DC combined. There are ~4000 miles on the county road network, approximately 80% of them unpaved. It is a beautiful area with flowers, nesting birds and peaceful quiet of wide open plains. We'll be cycling out to a B&B where we stay for two nights, so the in-between day we can explore further in the area. Not a particularly tough tour but an area I enjoy riding.

It sounds lovely ... I like tours like that because you can get to know the area a bit better rather than travelling straight through.

Be sure to take some photos!! :)

In England, there are 2 long weekends (bank holidays) in May: one at the start of the month and one at the end.

For the first bank holiday, I did a tour on National Cycle Routes over to the east coast of England. Next weekend I might head north, if it stops raining.

I plan on a couple of overnights to local campgrounds.

Doing a long weekend along the CT river from Old Lyme to East Haddam. Short, but nice.

Yes near that date.

I know, I know ... it's not a tour, but when I cycle in the mountains, it almost feels like a tour ... :)

Saturday - my father and I got in an 87 km ride in the mountains. It was a nice day as far as temperature goes, but was quite windy on the way out to Saskatchewan River Crossing ... it took us 3.5 hours to cover the 43.5 km!! The way back should have been really fast, but we were almost too tired to take full advantage of the tailwind. Still we did the 43.5 km back in 2.5 hours.

There was some wildlife out there ... deer - both mule deer and white tailed deer, mountain sheep, ravens, crows, and some sort of little yellow bird. The trees haven't leafed yet for some reason ... they're late this year. And there was lots of fresh snow on the mountain tops.

I cycled the Golden Triangle this year and throughly enjoyed it. It's been 3 years since I had ridden the GT.

The weather was decent, no rain but fairly cold on the starting day (around freezing, maybe a bit below) and headwinds seemed to be constant companions over the 3 days.

Attendance was down a bit this year at 319 with about 20 no-shows. It was speculated that the cold spring reduced training time for many people who didn't feel ready for the 320 km event.

Cycling over the new bridge in Kicking Horse Canyon was a novel experience for me and a big improvement over previous years. It's really quite impressive with an enormous cut through the mountainside and is just at the right grade for maintaining a steady climb on a bike.

Can't wait to ride it again.
