McKenzie Pass closed until mid-August
I have been doing more research for my upcoming ride across Oregon and Idaho and, according to the Oregon DOT (https://www.tripcheck.com/Pages/RCMap...ns&curRegion=4), the westside of the pass will be closed until mid-August.
I've read several journals as CGOAB where people have biked quite a ways up toward McKenzie Pass only to be told that the road is closed and having to turn around and coast all the way down.
Just wanted to give anyone doing this route a heads-up.

Santiam Pass is a nice way to cross the Cascades and all, but it doesn't come close to the MacKenzie.

I don't know what the current condition of the road is, but we were able to ride it on our 2007 tour when it was officially closed. The closure was for road work and we got there before the road crews started.
Is this closure also for road work? If so it might be possible to slip through when the road crews are not working. In any case I would check into it if I was planning a TA this year.

It is closed to repave the entire west side of the pass. They cleared snow from the road in May, and started grinding off the old road surface a week ago. It is really closed, trucks and equipment all over the place and the road torn up. It will be August until it's open. The east side from Sisters to the top of the pass is open, but you can't get past the summit to the west.
