credit card touring with 2 gears
Touring styles and bikes are as varied as the people who ride them. But most tend to the laden and low geared. I just want to encourage people to consider taking that single speed bike that you might use around town and do some credit card touring on it. Obviously don't set out to cross the rockies straight away, but a tour from inn to inn over reasonable terrain on a single speed is a lot of fun. I just completed such a tour (admittedly I had 2 x gears, 67" and 39") and if at 40 something and 20lbs overweight I can enjoy it I think most folks would get a kick out of it. It's a great way to vary the touring experience.

I found a late 70 Motobecane Super Touring in the trash and I converted it to an SS. I've just started to use it and I still have to get the fit right. The plan is to use it along the Ottawa River trails for day rides of around 20 to 50 km.
Do you have a larger picture of your bike?

Nun, Oh! What a beauty.
The two gears are manual shift from one CR to another?
And that looks like a full unsupported tour load for you.

Yes the shifting is digital, ie I have to use my finger to move the chain form one ring to the other. Gearing is 40/16 and 32/22 for the hills.
Not quite a full load this time, no sleeping bag, tent, pad or cooking equipment.

.....also does anyone else enjoy single speed or fixed gear touring?

I just converted my ss/fg conversion back to a geared bike for my upcoming tour. It's my first tour and I'd love to convert the bike back to ss/fg once I have more touring experience.
