    A Few More Stickies Perhaps?

    Just wondering what people think.

It seems like we get a few questions over and over that would be well served with a couple more sticky threads. Many folks would understandably prefer to just start a new thread rather than search multiple existing threads, while many others (if they're like me) would like to help, but just wrote out a long response to the same question last week, can't remember the title of the thread, and don't feel like searching either.

Here are a few sticky ideas/suggestions:

    Post your tool kit
    Touring with a road/racing bike
    Touring with a MTB
    Panniers vs. trailers
    Ultralight touring

I realize of course that there's no point trying to eliminate all redundancy, but there are some questions that crop up every couple of days or so. Also, it might be a nice reference for all of us to be able to look at the responses in one place.

I think there are too many sticky threads now; adding more means current posts will be further down and if this continues the first page will be simply a page of sticky threads. Point of a forum is for active discussion. Perhaps a better approach is to create a separate web page, maybe linked here somewhere obvious, that contains all the sticky thread information.

Edit: Like two others below, I will admit I do like the "pictures of load touring rigs" sticky.

The only sticky that is needed is one that tells people to use the search button. well and the loaded touring rig photo post.

Agreed, and the photo thread could be cleaned to remove all the chit-chat and comments.

Did the concept of FAQs die? Several times I've wondered why bikeforums.net doesn't have a few FAQs. Particularly in the commuting forum, which is 95% the same questions again and again. If anyone has the inclination to start and maintain a FAQ (for this forum or commuting), I'd be happy to contribute quite a lot to it.

Yeah, I hear what you're saying. I'm just thinking it would be nice to have certain information concentrated somewhere, both for the questions that get asked all the time, and as an easily accessed general reference. Then again, with a little effort and time, the info can be found with the search function.
