What is the best site on internet to get updated in cases of this ****.
I have seen different sites that shows a up-to-date map, but could not figure out who was serious.
Dont want to spread fear, that said we are the safest if we keep riding, cause so far the easy and good advise is to not stay in small public rooms and wash your hands.. A tourer should be maybe be more careful, use spirit/alcohol in small bottles from the "doctor shop" on your hands while riding.

Looks weird to follow this flue journey on the maps, seem to be not a logic journey in some ways. But sure is that the more people fly across borders (for general hollydays and buisness mostly) the more it will spread.

Is it airborne? I do not think so.. or?

Seem to me that if you are in a flue country i guess areas more close to south and north pole you become more resistent because you always have some kinds of flu trough out the year several times in summer and winter. Maby thats the reason that so many people has this flu in the belt of the globe, like perhaps US? Just something i was thinking about..

Serious ideas or tips around this tema for the tourer?

I wouldn't worry about it.

You are going to be outside cruising most of the time. On top of that I've noticed people that exercise a lot don't get sick as often. I think we literally piss and sweat the bugs out because we drink so much liquid.

You have more to fear from getting hit by a car than contracting, let alone dying from, the H1N1 flu. The number of people affected is truly miniscule at this time.

Also, all you really need to do is wash your hands. It's equally or more effective than hand sanitizers.

I agree. We aren't worrying about the swine flu at all - I think the chances of getting hit by lightening are greater!

More people die of other flus and similar diseases each year than have died from swine flu.

Last I heard I think 2 or 3 people had died "from" swine flu in Canada, and in each of the cases, after a bunch of media hype about the flu, the media admitted that those few people had other complications, and it wasn't clear whether the flu really had anything to do with their deaths at all, or whether they would have died anyway.

One place I look for info on this and other health topics like immunizations is the US Center for Disease Control web site: https://www.cdc.gov

It seems like some of their links also then point at the World Health Organization: https://www.who.int

I would agree with other posters that what we've seen so far puts it far down on my worry list, but useful to check some of those official sites out for questions or concerns. The other travel site I sometimes look at is https://travel.state.gov

Australia had it's first swine flu "related" death in Adelaide last week. Apparently this guy already had pneumonia (sp?) and a few other issues anyway. Compare that to the road toll in Australia, the increase on last year's statistic in Queensland alone is already around 30. I know which concerns me more.

Not really.

The CDC is quite concerned. This flu has the potential to mutate into a deadly form
that would kill millions. American doctors in recent years upgraded our ability to respond to a pandemic, the response to this flu gave mixed results. While the improvement has been considerable, so is the need for more improvement.

You're taking my quote out of context. The context I put it in said that when these 2 or 3 people died, the media went nuts proclaiming that they'd died from swine flu, and indicating that if any of us had so much as a case of sniffles we could drop down dead too. A bunch of media hype.

A few days later they retracted their blind panic reaction and told us the real story ... these 2 or 3 people were already at death's door, and IF they contracted the swine flu at all (which was in doubt too), it might possibly have hastened their death by a day or two. Maybe. It might not have had anything to do with their deaths at all.

I believe they've downgraded the warnings/reaction to the swine flu here in Australia in the last few days. No need to panic.

While I agree with all the coments about risk on the road of contracting the flu, and low mortality so far, the pre-existing conditions that can lead to complications are pretty comon things like asthma, heart disease, pregnancy, younger than 2 years of age or over 65, etc... that are relatively comon, even some among people who cycle strenuously. In addition this flu likes youger people.

I almost died of the flu once, and my complication was a minor sore/ulcer in my throat (possibly from coughing) that caused me to throw up water and nutrition. So with an IV and hospital care, no problem. There are a lot of bad things that can happen short of being the person who dies.

I'm not worried about the flu at the moment.

I've got a tour booked for mid September, and the thing that concerns me most is caching it on the plane journey out. Aircraft are terrible places for picking up colds and flu, and the way this thing is going, they;re talking about 1 in 3 getting it. In the UK, it seems to be exploding right now. I'm not overly concerned about the lethality of it, just that it could knock me out for the precious week I've got in the year to tour.

Maybe look around and see if you can find a facemask somewhere if you're that worried about it. I've seen people at airports wearing them on flights. That said, my mother works at an International Airport and hasn't had any problems yet, so I'd say you're likely to be in the clear.

And if you do contract it, just go and see a doctor for an oinkment.

I am thinking of doing a solo tour in Europe for about 1-2 months. I have to admit to being a bit worried about swineflu. I am reasonably healthy so I think the chances of dying are small but flu can be debilitating. Getting flu for a few days when alone and camping could be unpleasent and difficult to deal with. It won't stop me going though.
