This is interesting... make lane.

I kinda like the idea. Anything to improve safety. This is fairly clever and I would like to think—effective.

Repost but interesting idea...

Very clever idea.

As biking safey is largely about getting the attention of motorist, this gimmick would be another weapon in our defensive arsenal. Not near as good tho as a reflective top and a bright, blinking tail light.

Even better in my estimation would be a stobe light on the rear of the bicycle. Any available?

How about using the type of laser used on 007 in Goldfinger? I'm sure that you can get them smaller and lighter now....

I like the idea, though I think to be more effective I'd prefer a brighter, wider green line. Of course, then you'd have to use more batteries.... Also unless the rear light happens to be the best on the market, I'd also think you could be better off having this as just the parallel light lines -or even just one off side light line -rather than integrating it with a rear red light. Let the rider decide which red rear light they want, and let this device concentrate on providing better, brighter and wider green light lines when the rider decides to turn it on.

But I think it's a pretty neat idea -and just one more thing that can be used to hopefully achieve better safety. Assuming reasonable cost, I'd buy one. I'd probably be more interested if it was just a separate device as I mentioned above and with brighter wider light lines too.

If it only works just once when you are out riding.....

i... dunno.

while it's true cyclists often get the proverbial shaft from motorists, is blatantly 'creating your own bike lane' really a solution? motorist (And cyclist) education is a solution. this here is just a gimmick, and can be seen by some/most motorists as making the 'attitude problem' 'people on bicycles' seem to have even worse by encouraging the make-your-own rules behavior.

To me it's a cute concept, but just impractical, trying to reflect off a black surface into the path of car headlights. Good blinkies and reflective vest are much better, or one of those horizontal orange flags if you really want to claim your space.

kayakdiver 06-25-09 07:08 PM

nope. I'll stick with my $10 flag for touring. It works day AND night.

Hmm. Which one would be more noticeable?
