Touring with my toddler son

Hello I usually hang out more on the long distance forum as I am an avid randnonneur. This summer I pledged I would get out for a bike tour with my 18 month old son.

Well on my holidays a week ago I did and it was an incredible expeirence. I figured to start out with him and just do an over night camping trip just out of town.
I loaded up my bike with both of our stuff and camping gear then put him in our bike chariot trailer and off we set for the great out doors.

The ride itself was super long 30km's out to the campsite after getting lost and stopping for ice cream along the way.
When we got there I spent the remainder of the afternoon setting up camp and tending to my son and ensuring he did not run on the camp sites road or into the woods.

I finally later got him to sleep for the night and we both slept tell about 6am. After we awoke we ate breakfast of a shared blueberry bagel and a banana. While my son ate I packed down camp quickly and loaded up the bike and we road home.

This was an incredible time although more challenging than I had expected but will do it again in August. It also gave my wife a much needed night to herself the first night since our son was born.

I went on a out and back tour with my son when he was 8. I carried most of the weight, but he had small rear saddlebags and a sleeping bag bungied to his rack. It was 30 miles each way. It was great, except we forgot to bring toys! We got to the campground and I was ready to read and/or nap. Amazingly, those activities didn't appeal to him. The only toy he had was his bike, so he asked if he could ride around the campground. He rode around and around, like kids in campgrounds do.

The next day was a rest day. We rode into town and bought some plastic army men and a couple plastic jeeps. He played with them and rode his bike around the campground some more.

We rode home the third day. When we got home he had about 20 more miles on his bike's computer than I did!
