If it fits and the price is right...get it. You won't be disappointed.

Just became the owner of a 1997 531 Tour series Galaxy. Looking forward to getting it this weekend. Lovely British racing green and bar ends. Think it may have been one of the last decent frames? Does anyone have any more info on this year/model?

Hi everyone, Im new to this forum and just wanted to share with you all my latest purchase!! So I was walking round my local garden center with my wife and I noticed they had a 'bike corner' where a man who used to be a race mechanic sells second hand bikes that he fully strips down and rebuilds and where needed replaces cables etc.. Anyway, I noticed this 1992 part 1 Dawes Galaxy Tour in immaculate condition with Mavic A319 wheels and shimano Deore groupset. I couldn't believe he was only asking £90!!! Being from Yorkshire I had to try my hand at a bit of bargaining and I ended up giving him £85 for it!!!! I feel like this is a steal! the mudguards and pannier rack wouldn't have cost much less than that alone!!! I cant tell you all how happy I am with this purchase! Ill be cycling this steed around the Yorkshire wolds way at the end of July! I cant wait to rack up the miles on this new addition to my bike family!!! The pics don't do justice to how amazing the condition of this bike is!!

The man I bought it from said he acquired this off an old guy who had used it for touring regularly so it actually has been touring but just really well looked after. So many people on this forum seem to reply with negative comments, I don't know why I bothered sharing in the first place to be honest. Anyway I'm really happy with the bike and it rides superb so I suppose that's all that counts.

Well I appreciate it. Dawes were advertised in the bike magazines but for some reason then never had much distribution in the US, and as a result are fairly rare. Thanks for sharing. I am a sucker for green sparkle paint.

I'm actually looking to buy a Dawes Galaxy (from around the late 70s to mid 80s?). I can't find one. There are plenty on the web, but none of them ship to the US. Anybody selling here in the states?

Love them. I looked around here in the States for a place that sells them but couldn't find one. Otherwise I would have bought one.

Re message # 29...
I had almost exactly the same bike as that, even the same colour. Bought it second hand in London in around 1990.
I took it everywhere, was a great bike.
A few years after I bought it, the frame developed a crack near the headstock. I contacted Dawes and they replaced the frame & fork, free of charge, even though it had been a second hand buy for me.
So I had a shiny new bike, and I spent a bit of cash on a new saddle, cables etc.
It was a really nice ride.
Then in summer 1998; some gobsh**e stole it.

Another 1970s Dawes galaxy
Picked up this Galaxy a few weeks back slapped on some new tires from a local bike shop, rewrapped the bars with the neon tape (soon to be replaced with cloth. Checked shifting, brakes and the bike is ready for a ride. Bike looks original. Love the Dawes legwork! Had a mid to late 70s Galaxy that was my commuting bike till the BB shell separated from the seat tube!

Rings are there to hook bags. Steel is a solid 1/4", not certain if it is original, but have seen pics of older touring bike with similar racks. My MEC 30L and 54L panniers fit perfectly!

Just a picked up a Super Galaxy from the mid-80s in very good shape. Looks barely ridden, all original. Will post pics one of these days. The question is going to be whether to upgrade the components...

I'm bumping this thread because I just came back with this. It's the seller's picture and I am still a bit tired from the three hour round trip drive to take pictures. Maybe later.

1980 Dawes Galaxy
Hi! My father found his 1980 Dawes Galaxy that he used to bike across Europe after high school and is looking for it to have a new and loving home. The bike is in great condition, with the exception of needing some new tubes! We weren’t sure where to begin trying to sell it, so I thought I’d reach out to you all and see if you knew someone looking for one or had recommendations of where to go. Thanks!!
I have photos too but can’t seem to post because I’m new around here
