    I rode from Rehoboth to Philadelphia this summer, and went past Dover on my way. The state of Delaware has a signed bike route that goes near both places - I don't think that there are maps online, but you should be able to get one in a bike shop. You could also try to follow the signs without a map (that's what I did) but I don't recommend it.

    I rode from Lewes through Dover this summer on tour. The state bike maps, one for each county, are wonderful. So wonderful the roads are poorly signed.

    Heading north, I rode to the Coastal Highway, took that north to Cave Neck Road, and followed it into Milton. From there, I headed north out of town, took a wrong turn, and went by Redden State Forest. I came to 13, decided I didn't want that, and headed back to 113, which I took into Milford. Then it was 14 to Killien's Road, and then 13 into Dover.

    so... further upstate (dover) 13 is decent, but in suffolk county (down by milford) 113 is preferable?

    looking at the bike maps ( http://www.deldot.gov/information/co...are/maps.shtml ) i see that 13 and 15 are designated as secondary roads (yellow) with bold outlines most of the way meaning the shoulder is widened for use as a bike facility.

    bike route 1 is rather twisty-turney, especially considering it goes southwest-ish to harrington then east to milford before continuing south to milton...
    in wanting to keep to a more direct route i looked at the DELDOT maps and came up with this:

    dover -> camden via [13] (dupont hwy)
    camden -> viola -> milford via [13], [15] (cantebury rd), [14] (milford-harrington hwy)
    milford -> milton via [30]
    milton -> millsboro via [5], [john j williams]

    my actual destination is millsboro but more people are familiar with milton and reboth as places to go

    i travel with my gps (nuvi 205) set to bicycle mode and all avoidances (no traffic, highways, etc.)
    hasn't steered me wrong yet!
    i suppose if i don't like what i'm seeing in terms of road conditions, traffic i can divert to a service road or local road and recalculate.
    i've also got a compass (old school!) and since i'm headed due south i can keep the gps off to save battery.

    this ride was Awesome. the only crappy part was where i took route 5 out of milton down toward millsboro -- the shoulder on 5 (harbeson road) can only be best described as 'asphalt splatterpaint' -- AVOID.
