Good price on Cross Check?

Good price on Cross Check?
Hey there guys. This is my first post after a couple months of reading all over the boards, good stuff here.
Anyway, I have a question for you guys and just want to hear your opinion.
My '93 Trek roadie was stolen last week and I want to replace it. I want a do it all bike; road rides, dirt riding, touring. Essentially a bike that I can use for everything and hopefully keep for a long time. I have come to really lean towards a Surly Cross Check. I want to wait for a used one to show up on craigslist but they don't really pop up that often. Anyway, I found one that is fairly local but it is new. The seller is willing to let it go brand new for $775. I know this is a good price for a new CC but it is still more than I think I could pay for a used Cross Check.
Do you guys think $775 is an awesome, unpassable price for a new Cross Check or should I hold out in hopes of finding one used at a lower price?
I know this is totally a subjective judgment call but I just want to hear what fellow cyclists have to say cuz my friends think any more than $100 is a blasphemous amount to pay for a bicycle... They just don't know.... haha

Sounds like a good price, I'd go for it. I just got a new cross check modified from stock (panaracer t-serv tires, jaand expedition rack, added a third chain ring) and the ride feels so great. If it really looks new it's a steal, and you're right -- used cross checks don't come up often -- I was stalking bostons craigslist for about 3 months waiting for one to come up in my size and it never happened.

For the most part, anything you pay is usually worth it for a Crosscheck. Surlys are the Toyota of the bike world, you definitely get the most bang for your buck.
That price sounds fine to me, as long as the bike fits. I'm going to do that one more time in bold AND Italics: as long as the bike fits! Ask the seller if he'll let you take it on a full ride (30-60 miles) and bring a multi-tool with you to adjust seat, handlebars and stem. If you find that you're uncomfortable in any way, it's not the right price.
My friends are in the same category of bike people. If you didn't find it in a dumpster, you paid too much, haha. And they're totally justified, really. A good friend just crossed the country on an 80's Fuji he got for free. You can pretty much make anything work.
My LHT is the most I've paid for a bike. I think it's the most I've paid for anything, actually. But if I were ever to buy a new bike again, it'd probably be a Surly, again.
