Quick Question
It's been a while since I've visited the forum.... and I know that I'm going to be admonished to "search" the answer.... but I'm throwing it out anyway. The simple question is...... For and East to West Southern Tier crossing in the late summer/fall.... with a 60-80 mile daily pace... when would be a good starting time (range).

East to West, start as late as possible to avoid the heat and humidity of the southeast, and the heat of the desert. Mid September at the earliest, tho hurricanes can always interfere. Cold won't be much of a factor, tho you'll need some light cold weather gear for New Mexico and Arizona. Fall is a great time for touring just about anywhere.

Calculating from the ACA recommendatins for the Southern Tier route, the length of that route, the distance you plan to cover in a day, and the direction you are traveling, the acceptable range of start dates is October 15 through March 15. The midpoint is January 1, which might therefore be considered the ideal start date.
