I have looked at this site and proposed cycling route several times. After studying the sections that are near my home it seems to be mostly a dream. It uses existing roads is this area. You can look at the Adventure Cycle maps of the east coast route and find better riding, in my opinion.

IMO it's important because it includes some key segments (bridges and such) which lack bicycle access.

My conclusion was similar. I'd rather just ride on the AC route or pick my own route on regular roads generally avoiding bike paths and MUPs. Different strokes though.
