    140 spoke wheels for touring?

I was on a local craigslist and saw a lowrider bike with 140 spoke wheels.

Looks a little something like this:

    Ultimate touring wheels?

They look... heavy. Seems awfully close to a full metal disc instead of spokes.

Also, I would worry about the structural integrity of the hub itself with all of those spoke holes.
I like to ride bikes. I miss living in the city though, where it was all a bike's ride away. City dwellers: appreciate it. :D

Yes, especially with that spoking pattern which is not good for transmitting torque.

Could you cross the spokes with that many?

don't think it really matters with that many spokes. and no one ever rides a low rider bike hard anyways

At one point it was a Trek 700 something. Now it have Velocity Psycho wheels, a tape job. Thumb shifters (Shimano Deore). Corncob grouping, and drop bar ends all wrapped up in tape.

At some point there become too many hole in the rims/hubs and the whole system actually becomes weaker.

You can buy them brand-new for $90-110 set. Does that sound like the ultimate touring wheel to you?

If you think the spoke wrench is a problem, try an air pump!
