Need route help in Georgia (US)

I am in the early stages of planning a self supported/credit card tour that will take me from my home in northeast Georgia southward to St. Augustine, FL then west towards Ocala, Fl where I'll meet friends. They will plan the next week or so and will take us along the Gulf coast to approximately Pensacola, FL. From there we'll take the Adventure Cycling (AC) southern tier route back to St. Augustine and from there I'll head north back home to Toccoa, Georgia.

I can use some help with part of my route....the section from Toccoa, GA (approx 70 miles northeast of Atlanta, GA) to Statesboro, GA (45 miles northwest of Savannah, GA) . I'd estimate this section at 250 miles....probably 4-5 days of riding.

In Statesboro I will pick up the AC Atlantic coast rote and use their maps to get to ST. Augustine, FL. The rest of the route is AC and my friends (whom I trust to plan a good route).

Anybody know some good routes I can take to get to Statesboro? Or have any suggestions as to how I might get some help with this? I will combo camp and hotel it...very open to either.

I have contacted the BRAG folks (they run the Bicycle Ride Across Georgia event evry year) and I may get some route planning help from them.

Here is a link to the route I would take, which goes from Toccoa to Lincolnton to Washington to Wrens to Swainsboro to Statesboro. I would avoid Hwy 25, as it's way to fast and crowded with big trucks and cars.

kk4df,

Thanks for the help. Have you ridden any of this route? I'm most concerned about heavy/fast traffic and poor/no shoulders.

BTW, likely time frame for tour is spring.
