Made it to the EQUATOR!!!

We made it!! We're here - in the middle of the earth! We've pedaled 16634 km from Alaska to get here to the Equator - and we actually did it!!! Just thought I would shout out here seeing as how I'm all giddy with excitment that my boys actually did it. (...and now back to your regularly scheduled program...)

Congrats and keep up the pedaling!
See you in Tierra del Fuego.

Hey Nancy, how is your gear holding up? What have you had to replace/repair so far? How are your rims and tires doing?

Thank you all!! It's so amazing to think we are actually here - in the Southern Hemisphere now!

Davy is doing fine now. His toes don't hurt and all and we won't know anything more until his nails grow back in. We are keeping our fingers crossed that t hey grow in right! As far as his viruses, etc... it appears as though getting rid of the amoebas did the trick!

As for our gear - all is well. Our bikes seem to doing OK - we have given them two complete rebuilds so far just as a precautionary measure. Other than clothing and shoes and stuff like that, we haven't had to replace anything that I can think of. Tent, sleeping bags, stove,... all is well. Our rims have been fine so far - I broke one spoke in Panama but that's it. We replace tires when they are worn down to nothing - we get varying mileage out of them depending on where they are.

That's good to hear, thanks. Have you been buying local tires to replace your old ones, or are you using spares that you've been carrying?

Congratulations, and thanks for the update!

I have been following your journal all along, and have been worried about Davy's toenails - it really seemed like he was a pretty brave trooper. Glad he's feeling OK now.

We are carrying Schwalbe spares with us. Two of our bikes have 700c wheels and we knew we wouldn't find tires here, so we stocked up. We will most likely have to have some more sent to us in Peru.

Thank you to all of you!
