Adventure Cycling's "Bike Bits" just pointed this video out. Bret Taylor mounted a camera to his bike handlebar and took pictures on a regular basis as he and a group of friends rode the Trans Am raising money for Multiple Sclerosis. Have to agree. I'm hoping to ride the TA this summer or something close to it and after about 90 seconds I closed it and said (maybe) I'll get back to it

I did watch another video of the TA that I enjoyed though it is not the epitome of excitement either

Edited: I find myself continuously pausing to see certain pictures. Love the one with the buffalo standing right in the middle of the road.

The Bike Bits editor commented, and I have to agree, there were relatively few cars captured in the pictures, particularly in the east. For those of you having done the Trans Am, was it really that traffic free?

Much of it is.

I think there are either a few missing sections or he took a different route than the official TA at some points. For example I didn't see Colonial Parkway at all. So maybe some of the busier sections were not there, but yes there was tons of empty roads and watching the vid had the same feel as I remember from the ride.

I agree it's boring, but if you can't handle that, maybe a cross-country bike ride is not for you. And I think it could have been done better (more artfully). That said, I watched the whole thing and enjoyed it. If I were planning a cross-country ride, I'd love to have this kind of footage of a dozen different routes so I could pick the one I like best.

Interesting video, I enjoyed it. One thing I noted from it, and something I had felt anyway, was that there are far more memorable days you remember out west than east on the TransAm. I did it E-W and in watching that video I was unable to pick out anything recognizable until Kansas. Sure it looked familiar, and I could tell they were in either Virginia, Kentucky, Illinois or Missouri, but it was very difficult to know exactly where, a lot of it does look the same out East. However once they hit Kansas I could pretty much follow it exactly and know exactly where they were at any given time, just far more things stood out for me personally, did anyone else feel that?

I agree I didn't make it across the US. No map, hard to follow (I did some sections). annoyingly fast, when I got to my sections before I could bring back memories they were already in WY.

I suspect that things stick out more readily in your memory the further west you get is that anything of note does stick out in the vast expanses of the West. More open land with less to see (or more—depending on what you like to experience). I thought it was all pretty grand. Though, I did get really tired of sage.

Well, yeah, you have a point there.

But you also have to take into account the context of a Youtube, where you have the alternative of everything else on the internet (not to mention doing your job). Against those alternatives, this video comes up short.

I guess I saw it more as an instructional video than as entertainment.
