Student Hoping to Bike Across America
Hey everyone, my name is Dylan. I am a student in Seattle and I am hoping to raise enough money to be able to bike across America on the Transamerica Trail this summer. I will probably need around $1500 for the trip and for some of the gear I need to buy. I have a job but between paying for school and my appartment, saving that much money is going to be a stretch. I would really appreciate anyone who is willing to sponsor me or donate to making my dream come true.

So you want us to help pay for your vacation? I admire you wanting to do it.. Not so much about how you're going about it.

You just have to hope that someone WILL want to help. We'll see. I'm just asking people to help me do something that I wont be able to do on my own.

There are a lot of people who can't do stuff, like eat, on their own. You are just asking for handouts. It's gross.
What planet are you from? You should be embarrased.

The way this usually works:
a: Somebody has a close personal connection with a charity they'd like to raise money for by cycling, they build a website, tell their story to people who can relate and accept donations to both the charity and to direct sponsorship of the ride.
b: Somebody (usually with pretty serious credibility) has a unique, marketable idea--with a plan--they pitch to corporations willing to front gear in return for publicity/exposure/links from a trip website, etc.
c: Somebody falls under category 'a' and/or 'b' and writes adventure travel grants hoping for funding in the form of cash.
d: Somebody works hard, lives below their means, saves enough money and travels on a budget.
e: (And this sounds like you) Somebody wants to travel, doesn't have the time, energy or creativity to execute a, b, c, or d and moves on to the next whimsical dream; or, if their dream is worthy, patiently waits until everything falls into place.
Why would ANYONE want to give you, a complete stranger, money. Especially anyone from this forum, most of whom are busting their own tails (see 'd') to make their own "dreams" come true.
You have plenty of time to save $1500. Get a job, get a second job, cancel your cable, cancel your cell phone and sell everything you own.
When that doesn't work: VISA, Mastercard and Discovery would love to help.

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

GTGhis isn't a charity, so it falls afoul of our solicitation policy as stated in the guidelines. Sorry, but I'm closing this thread and removing the one placed in Charity Events, as it's not a charity event.
