sorry for another pannier thread...

But I tried the search function and couldn't find exactly what I wanted. I've narrowed my selection of panniers down to either Ortlieb Back and Front Roller Plus' or Jandd Hurricane series Frederick and Hugo. They both seem similar in design, but I believe the Jandd's are a little bigger. I just want to see what people who have used one or the other think about them.

I have the Ortlieb, and as many will note, Ortlieb have a good reputation. Given your comment, it seems now size is a factor in your decision. I opted not to buy the Ortlieb front rollers because they are small for my needs, and instead I use back rollers on both front and rear racks. Normally my front panniers are not filled to capacity so I have spare room for extras, like fresh bread, etc. Below is an image, taken summer 2009, showing my back rollers on both front and rear racks.

Size is the one thing I'm not 100% on. The Jandd Hugo is massive and I just don't know if I'll need that much room. I mean it's better to have extra room than not enough, but I don't want too much empty space...

When in doubt, go to a smaller size. That forces you to pack more economically. Very large panniers just encourage you to carry more stuff. I have Ortlieb front and rear Rollers and still have space even when traveling solo.

FWIW- I'll third the support for Ortlieb's. There has been a lot of discussion on this Forum about Ortlieb's vs XXXX, but the are tough, dry, and easy to use.
