Friends riding TransAm 2008 for friend with Cancer find out she was faking

Link to article here.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this article just the other day. In 2008 I rode the Transam, and while near Tribune KS, I ran into a couple of friends from Gunnison, CO who were riding the transam for their friend Tausha Marsh, who had cancer. After listening to their story I was happy to hand over a couple of bucks in support.

Amazingly, the cancer "victim" in question, turned out to have faked the entire thing as a sham to get money. Unbelievable! How can people be so crazy, and to fake cancer as a way to get money...

The rider and friend whom I ran into however, were also duped by their friend Tausha, and worked with the police to track her down, they were the biggest victims of all because what they thought they were riding for turned out to be a fraud.

Sorry if this is not entirely touring related, but I thought it might be interesting for anyone else who was riding the TransAm E-W and came across these folks along the way - the ride was called "WhydoIride.org" and was for the Tausha Marsh cancer fund...

You can't stop people with good intentions from being genuinely good people. The folks who ride for cancer or whatever cause are doing it because the kind of people they are. Now the person who is using cancer as a wealth building opportunity, well she has both karma and jail time to look forward too and if you ask me, I hope she gets plenty of both. The people riding were and are doing the right thing and should be proud of and recognized for there efforts.

I have no ill feeling toward the rider & support, they couldn't have been nicer and genuinely believed in the cause, so I really do feel sorry for them
