    Nishiki Cresta GT

Hi guys, I'm new to the touring section as I've spent most of my time in the road one so if you guys wouldn't mind helping me out it would be much appreciated! There happens to be a Nishiki Cresta GT on my local craigslist for $150. So a few questions arise: A) If the bike is in nice shape and doesn't need much work is it a good price? B) How high end of a bike is it? C) Does anyone on here own one/ ridden one before? I know some basic stuph like the bike should fit me and look for dent/cracks/ and severe rust and all that stuph. If I do decide to buy it I would see it in person first. Any other advice for me?

    Thanks for your time, Evan.

I had a Nishiki Cresta GT once and it was a nice, solid bike. CrMo frame, cantilever brakes, etc. Not flashy but totally functional. I don't know how much it would take to update the components but I'd guess the rear spacing is probably 126mm so if you wanted to use some heavy duty touring wheels with mtb hubs you'd probably have to cold-set the frame. Not hard to do but it might give you some negotiating leverage. $150 seems like a good price if it meets your needs and is in good shape.

I one sitting in the basement right now. Haven't ridden it much (needs a good cleaning/greasing/cabling) but is seems like a solid bike.

If the one you are going to look at is in nice shape and does not need a lot of work,I would say $150 is a good price.

    Should be something like this:

I used to have one. Great bike but if i remember right they had a kinda crappy front derailer standard, it was an easy fix though. I would ride one over a LHT anyday.

Well guys, I did it, I bought it for $100! So far it is a pretty nice bike, its made of Tange #2 double butted tubes, Suntour sport XCII components and has barely any miles on it! It has sat for mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnny years but with some TLC it will be an awesome bike. I'll post pictures soon once I get to start work on it! =D
