MTB upgrade - crankset
I am working on upgrading my old steel mtb. I've upgraded old brakes for Avid Single Digit 3 V-brakes and Tektro levers.
I am now looking into upgrading the drivetrain as the next step. Not sure I am willing to go all the way to XT component - but want the 27-gears anyhow. So, do you have any suggestions for a crankset? Should I aim for a road or mtb crankset? The touring I am doing combines road and off-road (gravel). And, what should be the preferable arm length? The current arm length is 175mm - which might be too long? Thanks for the advise. Olafur |
Deore crankset at JensonUSA
Jenson currently has Shimano Deore Hollowtech II crankset for $40! I doubt you'll find a better bang for the buck.

I would go for a 22,32,44t crank set and if your bike came with 175mm then I would go with a 175mm.And the rear cassette I would get a 11-34 but you may have to change out your derailleurs on back.that's if you have a 9 speed. That's my 2 cents on this.Good luck to you.
