How should I upgrade my Giant Expression?

Hey,
I own a Giant Expression, well its my dads! looks like this https://www.bobtrottercycles.com/imag...ressionN3G.jpg

I'm about to head on a 1000-1500KM cycle so I think I should make some upgrades to it. I was hoping to buy a new bike, but my addiction to buying guitars means I've spent the money elsewhere!

Don't know a huge amount about bikes, so what should I do? How can I make it work? It weighs a tone weight at the minute! can spend up to €200.

Cheers
Andrew

My Advice; Never change anything just before a tour unless it's broken.

What to do? Get a pair of panniers(bags)for the rack, maybe a stuff sack or two for the rack top, load up with camping gear and head out on tour. Front racks and bags are nice for balance, but not really necessary. Might have it checked at the local bike shop for mechanical soundness.

Load it up and make a couple of short test trips, that will tell you what you need to upgrade or change. What market is that bike sold in? I have a couple of Giants but have not seen that particular model.
