The cage is adjustable in height to fit most water bottles purchased in US c-stores or grocery stores. It can take 1 or 1.5 liter bottles or even larger as long as the base is not wider. Can't take standard 2 liter soda bottles (base is too wide). It's a good cage, except the rubber strap that secures the top broke on mine in the first week of use.

A few manufacturers of fizzy drinks in the UK use 1.5l bottles, and because they're designed to hold liquid at high pressure, they're plenty strong enough for extended use on a tour. My favourite is the Highland Spring bottle in this pic - reminds me of home!

I had trouble finding 1 liter bottles that were tall enough, it wouldn't adjust far enough down to hold most of them. Finally found a 1 liter "Smart Water" bottle that is taller and fit good. Now to find a 1.5, maybe at the liquor store?

I got one of the Minoura cages. The base is big enough for standard 2l bottles and by using a simple strap instead of the clip it works fine.
