Will a rack meant for 700X28 wheels fit on a 27" wheel? Will there be room for a fender? These are the great questions of are time! Id like to buy a racktime tour-it rack for my bike but I worryed about my wheel size. I could change to 700 wheelset but I don't feel like forking out the cash. Anyone know of a cheap/quality touring wheelset?

700 wheels are 8 mm smaller than 27" wheels, so a 4-mm difference in radius. Since a road rim can fit tires with widths ranging over 15 mm (if not more), and any rack or fender would need to accommodate the large end of that, I'm pretty sure you're fine.

I have a Racktime TopIt front rack and aRacktime rear rack whose name I don't recall over 700cx44mm tires. Plenty of clearance for fenders.

If anything, I'd like them to sit 15-20mm lower, but it works just fine.

You can fit a surprising number of racks designed for 26 in wheels on a bike with 27s. Depends on the rack of course, but most racks are designed with plenty of clearance in mind. My Tubus Logo actually sits much higher than I'd prefer—the lower pannier mounts are just about even with the rear tire. I expected the top to be just a few cm above the rear tire and the lower mounts to be well below the rim. I suppose this is so it is compatible with 29er tires? This is on my Pro Tour, so it's a 700c designed rack over a 27in wheel with 1 1/4 Pasela TG tires.

I have three of the same model rack. One on my 26" mountain bike, one on my 27" Schwinn, and one on my roadbike.
